This Russian school wanted to weed out extremists with an extremist questionnaire

The Chelyabinsk district attorney’s office says a test designed to detect extremist tendencies in 8th graders is itself guilty of extremism. A local city government had planned to administer the test in public schools.

The test included questions such as, “Should peoples live on their historical territory?” “How do you feel about migrants from other countries?” and “What nationalities should be banned from entering Russia?” with the possible answers being “Jews,” “Gypsies,” “North Caucasians,” or “other.”

After the intervention of the district attorney, the Kopeysk city administration decided to turn down the test, and the head of the local department of education, Alexander Tutatchikov, has been issued an official warning.
