Moscow prenatal clinic tells expecting mothers ‘not to awaken the beast’ in their men
A prenatal clinic in Moscow has started distributing to expecting mothers a brochure advising them "not to awaken the beast" in their male partners, according to a report in the newspaper Kommersant. The brochure, whose author isn't listed, comes in a packet of more traditional documents explaining the process of pregnancy and tips for remaining physically healthy. The pamphlet advises women on how to "strengthen their family relationships."
The brochure also recommends that women embrace being "number two" in their relationship with their partners, as this (the text argues) is a woman's main quality. The man should be the head of a household, as this is "God's design," the brochure says.
Update: Several prominent public figures, including scholar and columnist Ekaterina Schulmann, have cast doubt on Kommersant's report, saying the sexist brochure is fake.
Update 2: Pictures of the controversial brochures have surfaced online. They can be found at The Village here.
“A man doesn't tolerate his wife controlling him. The head can't be controlled! Try controlling the president of a country. Would he be able to do very much for the country?” the brochure asks its audience.
