Russian police have raided the Moscow office of the Russian airline company Kogalymavia (known internationally as Metrojet). Investigators are seizing the company's documents and computer hard drives, according to the Russian news agency REN-TV.

According to earlier reports, federal investigators have opened a criminal case into the crash of a Metrojet passenger flight in Egypt today. The plane was carrying 227 passengers, including the crew. Police are investigating Metrojet for violations of safety rules and air transport operation.

The Airbus A321 was traveling from from Sharm el-Sheikh (an Egyptian city on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula) to St. Petersburg. After disappearing from radar, the plane's wreckage was found in a mountainous area of central Sinai.

President Vladimir Putin has declared tomorrow, November 1, a national day of mourning throughout Russia.

Update: Officials at Metrojet deny that police have raided the company's Moscow office. A Metrojet spokesperson told Dozhd television that the airline is operating at full capacity without police interference.
