Youth leader in Russian opposition party is detained and served conscription papers

Mikhail Konev, the leader of the Moscow youth division of the opposition political party Parnas, was detained near his home by police earlier today and handed a summons to report for military conscription, according to Ilya Yashin, Parnas' deputy chairman. Yashin says the officers officers involved were from "Center E," the anti-extremism branch of the police.

Parnas member and former Kostroma campaign head Andrei Pivovarov told the website Mediazona that police came to Konev's home to deliver a summons to report to the army. Officers also visited his mother, who lives in Smolensk.

  • In September 2015, Mikhail Konev was attacked in Kostroma while campaigning for Parnas in local elections, reportedly suffering a broken nose.
