This first-grade teacher in Chelyabinsk assigned homework so hard that she's being charged with child abuse
The Chelyabinsk district attorney's office recently audited a school in the city of Zlatoust, after which it brought child abuse charges against a first-grade school teacher. The audit was conducted in response to an anonymous complaint submitted by a student's parents claiming that the teacher assigned homework that is too difficult, including daily assignments to memorize complex poems. The teacher also cut short the class's recess and extended her classes beyond set hours.
Prosecutors determined that the teacher's actions deprived children of adequate rest and opportunities to socialize with other students. Police also noted that the teacher assigned grades to her first graders' assignments, which is prohibited by a federal order of Russia's Education Ministry.
The teacher also stands accused of “exerting psychological influence” on her students by insulting them in class, according to prosecutors.
