Police open criminal case against youth leader in Kazan for celebrating the Orlando massacre

Police have opened a criminal case against Ramil Ibragimov, the president of the Union of Young Innovators of Tatarstan, for an Instagram post he wrote this week celebrating the massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando this past weekend.

Following the attack in Florida, Ibragimov posted a photograph of himself posing with an attractive young woman, adding the caption, “In Orlando (USA), some upright Afghan guy shot a gay nightclub to shit!!!! :) 50 faggots! :) Another 53 are now in the hospital. It's a shame they didn't kick the bucket, too. I really hope they all croak. The Union of Young Innovators offers its sincere support to this DECISIVE act!!!!! :) :) :) :) :)”

Ibragimov later deleted this post, telling reporters that terrorist attacks are murder and, therefore, “the same mortal sin as homosexuality.”

The specific law that has been invoked in his case is Article 205.2, which punishes those who justify or approve of terrorism.

Ibgramiov is currently forbidden from travelling outside of the Russian Federation.
