Federal prosecutors will investigate the legality of Russia's ‘baby hatches’
Federal prosecutors in Russia have launched an investigation into the legality of so-called “baby hatches” (or “baby boxes”), where people (typical mothers) can bring newborn children and abandon them anonymously in a safe place to be found and cared for.
The case comes after an official request for an inquiry by Senator Elena Mizulina, a conservative lawmaker well known for sponsoring controversial legislation aimed at defending so-called “family values.”
