Man drowns while swimming drunk in a Moscow public fountain on Paratroopers' Day

Today's Paratroopers' Day celebrations in Moscow turned tragic, when a young man drowned in a water fountain at Gorky Park, where veterans traditionally splash around on August 2 while heavily intoxicated.

There are conflicting reports about whether the victim was himself a veteran, but it does seem to be established that the man was Evgeny Orlovich, a 28-year-old Belarusian citizen. He was apparently swimming with four companions, all of whom were extremely drunk.

Orlovich was reportedly still alive when his friends pulled him from the water, but he died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
