Sochi city officials order local companies to report to police about all new hiring
Municipal authorities in the Russian beach resort city of Sochi have ordered entrepreneurs and companies to provide law enforcement with information about all new employees hired.
This decision, according to the administration's website, came to at a meeting of an antiterrorist commission tasked with "strengthening security measures in the city."
Such transparency is especially important, the report says, in the case of nonresidents (i.e. non-Sochians) being hired to work.
The new rules apply to all businesses, whether small enterprises or large companies.
"It is enormously dangerous not to question the people you hire to work [for you] these days. We live in a very stressful time and now [security measures are] a necessity," stressed Sochi's mayor, Anatoly Pakhomov.
