Russia is organizing its own competition for disabled athletes, after being banned from the Paralympics

Russia is organizing its own competition for disabled athletes, in light of the ban on Russian contestants in the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, says Vladimir Putin.

"I want to say to our Paralympians: of course we will support you and organize special events where you will be able to show all of your skills," the president said.

Putin stressed that winners of the Russian competitions will be awarded in the same manner as they would have been the Paralympic Games.

The International Paralympic Committee's decision to ban the Russian national team from competing was, according to Putin, "illegal, immoral, and inhumane."
