FSB says it prevented school shooting planned by two teens in Saratov

Two high school students born in 2005 have been arrested in the Russian city of Saratov on accusations that they planned an armed attack on one of the city’s schools, Federal Security Service (FSB) representatives told Interfax.

FSB agents said the suspects hid sawed-off guns in an abandoned bomb shelter. They also allegedly intended to use improvised flammable materials during the attack. According to the FSB, the two teenagers belonged to “various Internet groups that propagandize the ideology of mass murder and suicide.”

Both young suspects have been charged with preparing to commit murder. The FSB’s communications center released a video in which both teenagers confess to that crime, saying they had been planning to take revenge on the members of a particular high school in May 2020 by trying to kill approximately 40 people.
