Moscow police arrest journalists for picketing against ‘foreign agent’ designations

Moscow police arrested at least three journalists for carrying out solitary pickets outside the Justice Ministry building opposing the designation of independent media outlets as “foreign agents.”

On the evening of Wednesday, September 8, the publication Sota reported that police arrested iStories journalists Alesya Marokhovskaya, Irina Dolinina, and Polina Uzhvak. Marokhovskaya and Dolinina were designated as “foreign agents” in August, alongside several other iStories journalists and the publication itself.

According to OVD-Info, the detained journalists were taken to the Yakimanka Police Station.

On September 8, dozens of Russian media outlets took part in an online campaign opposing the country’s “foreign agents” law. The campaign, which was timed to coincide with the International Day of Journalists’ Solidarity, took place under the slogan “There Are No Foreign Agents, There Are Journalists.”
