Gazprom halts gas supply for Germany’s Shell and Denmark’s Ørsted starting 1 June
Russia’s state-owned Gazprom will halt gas supply for Denmark’s leading energy company Ørsted, Interfax cites the Gazprom PR office.
“Gazprom Export has not received a payment for gas deliveries by the end of the working day on 31 May, and deliveries will be suspended starting from 1 June until the company pays in line with Russian demands,” reads the statement.
Gazprom also said it had been told by Shell Energy Europe Limited that it would not pay in rubles for gas supplied to Germany, resulting in a supply halt as well.
Gasterra, the Dutch gas operator, also decided not to comply with Gazprom’s requirements on payment for gas in rubles, the company’s website stated yesterday.
On 31 March, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree obligating operators from “unfriendly” states to pay for Russian gas in rubles. Various EU leaders opposed this decision.
