Russia confirms participation in G20 Summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted the invitation of his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo to take part in the G20 Summit, which will be held in Bali on 15-16 November, reports Russian news agency Interfax, citing President Advisor Yuri Ushakov.

“We confirmed that our participation is on the agenda,” he told the journalists, clarifying that at this time the country representatives are invited to visit the summit in person.

According to Ushakov, it is of importance that Widodo invited Putin to the summit “considering that Indonesia is being and has been pressured by the Western countries.”

The advisor to the president also shared that on 30 June, Putin will meet Widodo in Moscow.

“After he returns from Ashgabat, the president will receive his Indonesian colleague Joko Widodo. It will be a work visit in the context of Indonesia's G20 presidency,” said Ushakov.

The two presidents will discuss the war in Ukraine as well as grain and fertiliser export.

Previously, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that “G20 has to continue playing its part.” Answering the question on whether he is willing to negotiate with Putin, he responded that the decision will be made “shortly before the departure, seeing as by that time the situation in the world could change dramatically.”

The G20 Summit hosts the representatives of the leading economic powers, including, in particular, Russia, the UK, Germany, Canada, China, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. This year’s Summit will take place in Indonesia on 15-16 November.
