Over 180 draft notices given out to Russian men on Georgian border
Over 180 draft notices have been given out to Russian citizens on the border between Russia’s North Ossetia and Georgia, reports Russia’s news agency Interfax, citing Abril Abdullayev, Deputy Military Commissar of North Ossetia.
The notices are given to citizens in the mobile checkpoint of the military commissariat that was set up near the Verkhny Lars border checkpoint several days ago.
Previously, it was reported that head of North Ossetia Sergey Menyaylo had signed a decree “On introduction of high alert mode” in the region, banning the entry of cars with other Russian regions’ plates to North Ossetia.
On Tuesday, 27 September, it was reported that, on the Russian-Georgian border near the Verkhny Lars border checkpoint, draft notices would be given out not only to residents of North Ossetia but to residents of other Russian regions too.
The Verkhny Lars border checkpoint is one of the most overloaded Russian border checkpoints at the moment: a car queue towards the checkpoint has stretched for dozens of kilometres; according to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, about 10,000 Russian citizens enter Georgia every day.
