Drafted man dies at military unit in Russia’s Omsk
Dmitry (his surname is not stated), a drafted man from Russia’s Krasnoyarsk, died at a military unit in Omsk under unclear circumstances, NGS24.ru and NGS55.ru news portals report, citing their sources and the local forensic examiners.
“He was already taken from the morgue by the funeral services agency. We issued a certificate for his transportation, which means he will be transported to Krasnoyarsk soon,” the forensic examination office stated.
The man’s wife was informed of his death on 2 October. The news outlets point out that she got a call from an employee of the military unit who told her that his death is being investigated. A close friend of Dmitry who was mobilised at the same time as him said that they had received threats due to a conflict with other drafted men.
“We suspect that he didn’t kill himself, because Dmitry had no suicidal tendencies, he never attempted suicide. He has two small children. When he was leaving, he was in high spirits, he wanted to return alive and well,” the wife of Dmitry’s friend who was drafted in the same unit said.
Dmitry’s friend had to undergo a medical examination following Dmitry’s death, the news portals report. His wife says they found no traces of alcohol and drugs in his system. After the examination, he was transferred to a different company within the military unit.
“The forensic examination results will be ready in eight weeks. The Investigative Committee will hand over a copy of the autopsy to his relatives,” the forensic office said.
It was reported earlier that three drafted men had died at an army training centre located in the settlement of Poroshino in Russia’s Yekaterinburg region.
