Ryazan court sends man suspected of arsoning draft office and courthouse to pre-trial facility

A court in Ryazan has sent a local man suspected of arsoning a draft office and a courthouse to a pre-trial facility for two months, the court reports.

The prosecutor’s theory is that the suspect, being in a drunken state, attempted to set the local draft office and courthouse on fire. He threw two Molotov cocktails into the ground floor window of the courthouse. He will remain in a pre-trial facility until 8 December.

Arson attempts at Russian draft offices have become more frequent since the announcement of a “partial mobilisation”. On 30 September, Russian army official Vladimir Tsimlyansky said that the arson attempts would be treated as terrorist attacks by the police. The perpetrators may face up to 15 years in jail.
