Information HQ of Nagorno-Karabakh reports Azerbaijan cutting off gas supply to territory of unrecognised republic

Azerbaijan’s authorities have cut off gas supply on the territory of the unrecognised Nagorno-Karabakh republic (Artsakh), media outlet News Armenia reports, citing the Information HQ of the region.

“In this weather, cutting off supply of blue fuel is a humanitarian and economic terrorism that Azerbaijan is consistently partaking in against the civilian population of Artsakh,” the HQ’s statement reads.

Following the trilateral agreements concluded after the Karabakh War in 2020 and a series of local advances carried out by Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces, Baku now controls the bigger part of Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan’s gas operator Azerigaz is responsible for supplying the region with gas.

In March, Armenia accused Azerbaijan of cutting off gas supply to the republic. Back then, the gas pipeline was shut down near the city of Shusha which led to around 120,000 people going without heating, according to Armenia’s Foreign Ministry.
