Russian draftee beats commander to death, sent to pre-trial jail
A military court in Russia’s Magnitogorsk has sent a senior sergeant drafted during mobilisation and accused of assaulting his commander to a pre-trial detention centre, the court informs.
The man is accused of using violence towards a superior officer during mobilisation and is facing up to 15 years in prison.
The investigators’ theory is that on 23 December the sergeant, being in a drunken state, used physical violence against his commanding officer, Captain G. The injuries he inflicted caused the captain to die at the scene.
The brawl happened inside a military train parked at the Misyash station in Russia’s Chelyabinsk region. The names of the servicemen remain undisclosed.
A court in Chelyabinsk sentenced a contracted private to five years in prison last week for failing to turn up at his military post after mobilisation had been declared.
