Local authorities report two explosions in Ukraine’s Khmelnytskyi region. Ukraine’s military says six Kalibr missiles were launched by Russia

Two explosions have been reported in the Khmelnytskyi region of Ukraine, head of the military administration of the region Serhiy Hamaliy says in a Telegram post.

UPDATE 4:45 PM
A Russian missile hit a military facility in the city of Khmelnytskyi, head of the military administration of the region Serhiy Hamaliy says.

According to him, the Russian army carried out two strikes on the city. The second missile fell near a public transport station.

Furthermore, chief of the Kharkiv city military garrison Serhiy Melnyk reports that the launch of six Kalibr missiles has been documented, they are moving towards the western regions of Ukraine.

Due to the threat of a missile strike, emergency blackouts are being carried out in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro regions, Ukraine’s DTEK company announces. “This is a necessary preventive step which will allow us to avoid significant damage to energy infrastructure, in case the enemy’s missiles reach their targets,” the company’s statement reads.

Power has been preemptively turned off in the Cherkasy, Kropyvnytskyi, and Kherson regions as well, the local authorities say.

Emergency blackouts are also being carried out in the Poltava region where, according to media outlet Strana Ua, no air raid alert has been declared as of now.

UPDATE 1:45 PM
Ukraine’s Energoatom says that Russia launched cruise missiles above the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant. Their movement above the station was documented at 8:25 and 8:27 AM local time.

“The aerial objects were moving along the riverbed of the Pivdennyi Buh River in the direction of [the city of] Pervomaisk of the Mykolaiv region and flew dangerously close to the nuclear object,” the company said in a statement, emphasising that there was a high threat of hitting the reactor with potential consequences in the form of a nuclear disaster.

Energoatom filed a complaint with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Mayor of the city of Khmelnytskyi Oleksandr Symshyshyn says that two people were injured in the shelling.

According to him, three educational institutions, several hundred windows, a number of commercial objects, shops, cafes, and a civilian car were damaged.

Head of the Mykolaiv region Vitaly Kim says that missiles have been launched from the Black Sea and that air defence has been activated in the region. Furthermore, he has posted a photo with a downed object and explained that it was, most likely, debris from Ukrainian air defence.

Governor of Russia’s Kursk region Roman Starovoyt says that the districts bordering Ukraine have been shelled. According to him, five “hits” have been recorded near the Gornal village. No one was hurt in the shelling.

“Two shells each fell down in the outskirts of the Elizavetovka village and near the substation of the Popovo-Lezhachi village. No one was hurt. But following the shelling, power supply of the villages Krasnooktyabrskiy and Volfino has been distorted. A gas distribution station was damaged in Elizavetovka. Emergency crews have started in on emergency repairs,” he adds.
