Jailed opposition politician Alexey Navalny is no longer listed as an inmate of his penal colony, his press secretary Kira Yarmysh tweeted Monday.
Navalny has been held at a corrective labour colony in the Vladimir region, east of Moscow, since last year. His current whereabouts is unknown.
Navalny, who was initially sentenced to 2.5 years in jail for parole violations in 2021, was subsequently given another nine years on charges of fraud and embezzlement in 2022, and then a further 19 years on “extremism” charges in August.
Yarmysh said that Navalny’s team had been unable to contact him for six days, and had been particularly concerned for his well-being given his serious ongoing health concerns.
Navalny also failed to appear in court by video link last week. That hearing has since been rescheduled for 22 December.
