On the night of July 21, Lipetsk residents reported about explosions and fire. In the evening, a missile danger was announced.
According to ASTRA’s analysis of eyewitness footage, the fire broke out in the area of a local thermal power plant and the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant. It is still unknown what exactly is attacked and burning.
Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant (NLMK) — the largest steel mill in Russia, which produces about 20% of all Russian steel. Propaganda media claim that the plant is engaged in the production of civilian products, but NLMK steel is also bought by companies specializing in the production of missiles. The company, however, claims that “it has never supplied military products to the Russian military-industrial complex.” The Ukrainian special services disagree with this and consider the plant a legitimate target precisely because of its alleged connection to the military-industrial complex.
Lipetsk TPP-2 is one of the largest thermal power plants in the Chernozem region, providing heat to Lipetsk and some industrial enterprises in the region.
